Dear Elevation Members,

This is Kristine.  Some of you may not know me and some of you most definitely do.  If you don't I'm sure we'll meet eventually.  Fingers crossed.

I've hacked into the blog so I can tell you all about the Crossfit Open! In almost 3 weeks the 2017 Crossfit Open will be upon us.  For those of you new to Crossfit, the open is the first qualifying stage towards competing in the games which are held every summer in July.  Some of you may be wondering why you should sign up since you're not really intending to get to the games this year.  Well, let me tell you. Registering and competing in the open workouts is a great way to have a friendly competition either against yourself or other members of the gym.  Its also a good assessment to see what you need to work on over the next year.  There are RX, Scaled and Master's divisions, so there's really no excuse to not do it.  The open workouts are announced on Thursday night and you have until the following Monday to complete the workout and submit your scores online.  Typically the open workouts are done on Friday nights in place of the regular 4:30/5:30 classes, with a make up/re-do day on Sunday mornings, but do not fret, if you can't make those class time, get a hold of a coach and tell them you need to get your open workout done and they'll get you squared away.

This year Crossfit Elevation is going to do something a little different.  CFE will have an in house leaderboard and competition, awarding prizes to the winner of each division per week and to the overall division winner at the very end.  To make it even more interesting, we'll keep track of the AM class regulars vs the PM class regulars that are signed up. Which ever group scores the most points gets bragging rights and will write a workout for the other.  So, do your AM/PM teammates a solid and sign up, then kick some A$$.  To be eligible for this you have to be registered for the open officially on the Crossfit site.  Which you can do right here:

The show starts on February 23rd and ends March 27th.  Overall winners and prizes will be announced after the submission deadline for the last workout.

For me, the CF Open has a very special place in my heart.  I had been at Elevation only for a few months and in Denver just a little longer.  I didn't know anybody and was hesitant to put myself out there. I showed up one Friday night just to watch an open workout, because I didn't think I was at the level to participate and I definitely wasn't going to the games.  I probably didn't even know what the CF Games were to be honest.  What I saw that night changed my attitude completely.  There was a positive vibe and energy in the air. It was super supportive, fun and I met the other members of the gym. Everyone there encouraged me to do the rest of the open workouts regardless of my skill and fitness level.  That experience really made me realize what an awesome community CFE is.  Plus I saw a muscle up for the first time, which was pretty cool.  I showed up the next week ready to rock n roll and do more wall balls than I ever thought I could.  I've been mainlining the CF cool-aid ever since and have participated in every open workout for the last 3 years, learning something new about myself and my capabilities every time.  Plus, did I mention it's lots of fun?

That's all I have to say.  Hope you sign up and keep crushing it at the gym.

Back to the regularly scheduled blog.  Check you on the flip side!
